GET TO KNOW OUR STAFF

Helen Smithson

Helen Smithson

Lecturer in Hairdressing

Hi!

I’m Helen Smithson and I’m a Lecturer in Hairdressing at NSCG.

I began my hairdressing career at the age of 15 as a Saturday girl, and then progressed onto an apprenticeship. I chose to specialise in technical work and hair extensions, and after gaining work experience in a variety of salons and developing my skills in colour, cutting, styling and hair up, I decided to open my own salon.

I had an amazing 8 years of working and developing my client base enabling me to employ staff to help with my growing business, but I decided it was time for a new challenge. I had always had a keen interest in teaching hairdressing so I chose to complete a teaching degree whilst teaching training whilst running my salon, which was definitely a challenge!

After teaching part time and working in my salon I decided to teach full time. I have had an amazing career teaching, upskilling and developing my own skills, taking part in fashion/catwalk shows and competitions thus inspiring my students. I am still as passionate about hairdressing as I was when I started my career and feel fortunate to love my job as a teacher and hairdresser!

Natalie Procter

Natalie Procter

Lecturer in Hairdressing

Hi!

I’m Natalie Procter, and I’m a Lecturer in Hairdressing at Stafford College.

I first started my hairdressing journey when I was 15 years old, and successfully landed myself a Saturday position in a local salon. I have worked in various salons across Staffordshire and have gained the experience to have a successful career to date.

I studied hairdressing through the full time education route, whilst working part time in a salon at the same time. I felt this helped to give me that extra knowledge I needed to succeed. Throughout my career, I have entered competitions, which I found inspiring and have had the opportunity to work alongside Gok Wan on his catwalk show, ‘One size fits all’.

I then went onto complete my degree in teaching so that I can instil the passion and drive I have onto new and upcoming stylists and technicians. Hairdressing is a rewarding career as you can be creative within the skill, as well as helping others to feel good in themselves.

I look forward to meeting you very soon!

Charlotte Bryan

Charlotte Bryan

Lecturer: Hairdressing

Hi!

I’m Charlotte Bryan and I’m a Lecturer in Hairdressing at NSCG.

I began my journey in hairdressing in 2007, gaining qualifications in hair, barbering and beauty as a full time student at Leek College.

I started my career working in a small local salon and eventually became a mobile hairdresser. I worked towards my career as a hairdressing lecturer alongside and completed both my assessing and teaching qualifications.

One of my best memories working in the industry is when I took part in the Young Stylist of the year Awards at the Salon International and was awarded a spot in the top 6 in the UK. I had the fantastic opportunity to gain recognition from celebrity Loreal professional hair stylists, who judged the competition and we all presented our work on a live catwalk, to a large audience at the hair and beauty convention.

I started with NSCG as a work based assessor for apprenticeships which is a career I pursued for 3 years, before becoming a full time lecturer. My passion is creative colouring and keeping up with the latest trends, to pass on up to date knowledge to others and hopefully pass on my love for the industry.

See you soon!

Diane Hutchinson

Diane Hutchinson

Administrator: Hair, Beauty and Catering

Hi!

I'm Diane Hutchinson, and I'm the Administrator for Hair, Beauty and Catering.

I have had a varied career before coming to the Stafford College, the main one being a Customer Service Manager for Tesco in several stores from Lee Mill in Devon to Worcester and plenty in between.

I came to the college 16 years ago as Senior Technician for Beauty and Holistic Therapies, which entailed everything to support the tutors from purchasing to organising interviews. As the department changed to include Hair and Catering, I took on the role of Administrator for both departments. My role is to support tutors and students, and ensure the smooth processing of applications and enrolments and anything else that is required.
